Program Overview
The educators develop daily program plans based on the interests of the children. Activities are planned and implemented to engage children in a way that is educational and fun. The program plans cover a wide range of developmental skills including, Social, Emotional, Communication, language and literacy, Cognitive and Physical. In addition to the developmental skills; How Does Learning Happen is a pedagogical theory that helps educators to build on the four foundations that focuses on Belonging, Well-Being, Engagement and Expression. The developmental skills along with the four foundations promotes the knowledge that children are competent, capable of complex thinking, curious, and rich in potential.
Infant-preschool
Birth– 18 Months

Thorncliffe Park Day Care Centre provides 10 spaces for infants with 3 staff. (3:1 ratio)
We encourage our families in this age group to provide food, extra clothing, items for diaper changing, sunscreen and any other comfort items.
The educators will provide age appropriate activities for the children and the developmental process will be screened using the Nippissing Screening Tool.
The educators will communicate with the parents in person and by using the program “HiMama” to discuss stages of development
All infants will start gradually over a one-week period.
Older or transitioning infants will be introduced to our catered menu from Real Food for Real Kids.

We are licensed for 10 toddlers and 2 staff.
Parents are asked to provide diaper essentials, extra clothing, sunscreen, and appropriate clothing for outdoor play.
Developmental process will be screened using the Nippissing Screening Tool.
Communication with the parents will be conducted in person and on a program named “HiMama”.
All Toddlers will start gradually over a one-week period.
Children are encouraged to feed themselves with some assistance from the educators.
Toilet training will be introduced during this stage of development.

We have 2 Pre-School rooms licensed to have 16 children per room.
There are 2 educators in each room.
Children entering this room should begin the toilet training process.
Extra and appropriate changes of clothing is required.
Children are encouraged to eat on their own with some assistance from the staff.
SCHOOL AGE PROGRAM
Thorncliffe School age is located inside Thorncliffe Park Public School. The Before and After school program runs from 7:30am- 9:00am / 3:30pm-6:00pm on Instructional school days and 7:30am-6:00pm on days when there is no school.
Staff promote children’s learning through observations and documentation. Based on the children’s interest staff will plan activities in drama, science, cognitive and art to further develop their interest and knowledge.
Pickup/Safety
Children who attend the program are escorted to and from Thorncliffe Park Public School. The daycare also picks up children in the afternoon who attend Canadian Martyrs Catholic School.
Lunch Program
The school age program also offers a lunch program for 21 children through-out the school year, registration is required for this part of the program. On all Pd days, winter breaks and during our summer camps, a nutritional lunch is provided for the children by our catering company Real Food for kids.
